What we keep
- Your account: email address, first name or nickname if you give one, language, password (kept only in irreversibly encrypted form).
- Your subscription and payments: dates, amounts, payment provider references. Never your card number.
- Your reading: position in each book, bookmarks, highlights, notes (encrypted), search (not stored).
- Your reading devices: type (phone or computer) and approximate name, to apply the rule of one phone and one computer.
- Your newsletter sign-up, if you requested it, with the date of your consent.
- Your sign-ins: if you sign in with Google, the identifier Google sends us and your e-mail address; never your Google password.
- Your rules and measures: the date on which you accepted the rules of use and, where applicable, the warnings, limitations or suspensions applied to your account, with their reason and your contestations.
- Your reading: the reading goal you choose, the chapters opened each day (kept for 400 days at most) to count your week and your streak, and your choice of whether or not to receive reading reminders by e-mail.
- Your notifications, if you turn them on: the delivery address of your device given by your browser, its time zone and your preferences. They are used only to tell you when your access ends and when new books arrive; you can turn them off at any time in My account, and they are erased when you deactivate or delete your account.
Why
To create your account, open your reading according to your subscription, take payment, resume your reading and contact you about your account. The newsletter relies solely on your consent, separate from the subscription.
Who can access it
The publisher, to manage accounts and handle an incident; she never sees your notes, your highlights or what you read.
Our technical providers, to the extent necessary: Stripe for payment, Hostinger for hosting, Cloudflare for protecting and speeding up the site (requests go through its servers), Google for sending account e-mails and, if you choose to sign in with Google, for that sign-in.
Cookies and trackers
The site only uses cookies necessary for it to work: login session, form protection, chosen language, reading device. Your light or dark theme and the text size are kept on your device. No advertising trackers. The site counts its visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a tool that sets no cookie, keeps nothing in your browser and does not try to recognise you; it is only used to know how many people visit the site and which pages they look at.
For how long
As long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your progress, bookmarks, highlights, notes, devices and newsletter sign-up are erased, and your name and address are removed.
Only billing records (amounts and dates, without name or address) are kept for the period required by law. Encrypted copies may remain in our backups until they are renewed.
After an account is closed for breaking the rules, an irreversible fingerprint of the e-mail address (which does not allow it to be recovered), the rule concerned and the date are kept for three years to prevent a new registration. Measures taken on an account and the related contestations are erased after three years; the text of your contestation message is erased if you delete your account.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, its correction or deletion, object to processing or withdraw a consent. You delete your account yourself from “My account”. For anything else, write to [email protected].
Automatic detection and measures
To protect the books, the site spots certain unusual uses: a large number of different devices, repeated session transfers, reading many chapters in a very short time. These signals alert the publisher; on their own they prove nothing, since a trip or a new phone also triggers them.
They may temporarily limit a use, without a human decision: being unable to add a new device for 7 days, or a 30-minute reading pause. You are informed on the site and by e-mail, and you can contest from "My account"; with no reply from the publisher within 48 hours, the limitation is lifted.
A suspension or closure is never decided automatically: it is taken by the publisher after review, with a reason, and you can always contest it.
Management assistant
The publisher is helped by an assistant based on artificial intelligence models provided by third parties (for example Google). It reads book texts, draft letters and overall figures (number of subscribers, reads per chapter). It never receives your notes, your highlights, your e-mail address, your name or your pseudonym.
If you contest a measure, your message is passed to such a tool only if you tick the box provided for that purpose, after your e-mail address and name have been removed. The tool prepares an analysis; the decision is always taken by the publisher.
Security
Irreversibly encrypted passwords, encrypted notes, temporary single-use recovery links, administration access protected by a second factor, backups encrypted before they leave the server.
